Apps that can be used to provide visuals supports for students with severe disabilities

There are so many awesome apps that are out there that can help to provide visual supports for students with severe disabilities. These are mostly students who are not attending college. These visual supports include picture schedules, activity schedules, and social stories. These apps can help students become and stay more organized. They are great stress relievers and could also help individuals communicate with the students.

Examples of these apps include:

iPrompt – this is a picture schedule for students

iCommunicate- This is a schedule creator and you can click pictures to make the app speak

Boardmaker- This is a social story that helps students plan out their days

  1. Tom, I enjoyed all the visual pictures that you provided on this post. iCommunicate looks very interesting since you can pick out your own picture for certain words and they are able to speak! That is great for students who need to see AND hear something to understand. It's amazing how many apps are out there to help students with ALL different disabilities! Great job on your blog!

  2. Erin, Thank you! I also thought that iCommunicate was cool for that reason because students can put what they picture when they hear words. This will definitely lead to better understanding of the words. I also think that it is great that there are so many awesome apps out there!
